FULTON, MS – Freshman Emilee Henderson (Burnsville) belted a two-run home run in the sixth inning to help give the Lady Indians some breathing room in their 3-0 Game 1 win over the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs in their North Division opener on Saturday.
"Your first win in the division is always the most important," commented ICC head softball coach Andy Kirk. "We knew Holmes was going to be a tough team to open division play against and Emilee really stepped up in a clutch situation to help us pick up this win."
Sophomore Rebecca Sloan (Woodland, AL) kept the Lady Bulldogs bats silent by striking out a season-high 10 batters while giving up five hits in her complete game shutout.
"Becca had an outstanding game," said Kirk. "She was hitting her spots and was doing a great job mixing up her pitches to keep the batters off balance. You really can't say enough for the game she had today."
ICC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Anna Holley (Columbus) singled, stole second and eventually scored on a two-out single by freshman Kory Watterson (Nesbit) before Ashley Camp (Amory) reached via error to score on Henderson's sixth-inning shot to center.
Camp also singled to complete the Lady Indians' four-hit effort
The Lady Indians improve to 5-5-1 overall.
