The Itawamba Community College softball team saw the third-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats put three runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up a 4-1 victory over the No. 16 Lady Indians in the opening round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament in Clinton.
JCJC (40-7) took advantage of an Lady Indian error to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but ICC (33-12) rallied to tie the game when Jasna Clay scored on a double down the left field line by Kami Roberts in the top of the fifth.
The Lady Bobcats put three runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth after taking advantage of the third ICC error of the game and a two-run single by Bethany Volking.
The Lady Indians will take on Pearl River Community College in an elimination game at noon at Traceway Park.
The game will be a rematch from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) softball tournament; a game the Lady Wildcats won 4-3 in Fulton.
Kami Roberts singled and had a RBI double to lead the Lady Indians' bats while Jessi Patterson, Holly Schlicht, Lindsay Richardson, Ashley Camp and Jasna Clay all had singles.
