Itawamba Community College head softball coach Andy Kirk announced the signing of Kory Watterson of DeSoto Central High School.
"It feels great knowing I'll be a Lady Indian next season," said Watterson. "I'm glad to know I've finally accomplished my dreams of playing college softball."
Watterson, a first baseman, batted .400 during her junior campaign for Coach Phyllis Jones and the DeSoto Central Lady Jaguars. She had a .405 on-base percentage and .563 slugging percentage. She had 21 runs scored and 21 RBIs with five doubles, one triple and a pair of home runs while striking out only once in 85 plate appearances.
"This is something Kory is doing because of all the hard work she has put in," Coach Jones told the nearly 50-person gallery attending the signing. "Ever since the seventh or eighth grade, she knew what she wanted to do was play college softball and because of her dedication she is going to get to do that."
"She is a run producer that we are anticipating to bat in the middle of our lineup next season," said Kirk. "She comes from a great program playing under Coach Jones and has the ability to play well beyond her time at ICC."
