ELLISVILLE, Miss. – The Indians finished runner-up in the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament after dropping a 5-2 decision to host Jones College after a quick turnaround from Friday's grueling semifinal win over Gulf Coast.
The Bobcats won all three double points with a hard-fought, 8-4, win in the No. 2 match.
The Indians got on the board in No. 1 singles when Matias Ruiz retired the match to Tasso Moreira due to injury. Waterer cut Jones' lead to 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles before the Bobcats captured the championship with a win in No. 4 singles. Jack Semper led his No. 3 singles one set to none when the match was called.
The Indians will participate in the NJCAA National Tennis Championships in Plano, Texas May 13-17 at Colin College.
