Indians open season with 7-2 win over Northeast

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's tennis program opened the 2016 season with a 7-2 win over rival Northeast Mississippi Community College Friday.
The Indians (1-0) swept the Tigers in doubles action to start the day. Bryan McDonnieal (Corinth) and Jacob Bozeman (Brookhaven) paired up to defeat Jacob Price and Payton Pearce 8-4, and the duo of Dexter Clay (Shannon) and Caleb Simmons (Saltillo) picked up a dominating 8-2 win over Jesus Osorio and Landon Baswell.
Lane Brandon (Houston) and Cameron Shumpert (Fulton) finished the sweep of doubles action as they outlasted Nathan Cleveland and Cory Lindsey, 8-5.
McDonnieal, Bozeman and Clay all cruised to victory in their singles matches but the other three matches were close intense battles.
The Tigers picked up two matches as Cleveland rallied to defeat Brandon 6-3, 3-6 (10-8) and Cade Scroggins squeaked past Shumpert 7-6(8-6), 6-4.
Simmons wrapped up the day and the victory for the Indians as he defeated Lindsey 4-6, 6-4 (14-12).
