MERIDIAN, MS –It was a battle of top 20 teams on Tuesday as the No. 19 Itawamba Community College Indians and No. 16 Meridian Community College Eagles went head-to-head.
The Indians (4-2) showed up ready to play sweeping doubles competition and winning five of six in singles to pick up the 8-1 victory.
Drew Ballard (Tupelo) and Mark Robbins (New Albany) highlighted doubles action with their 8-0 win and Ballard carried the flawless victory over to singles to pick up a 6-0, 6-0 match win.
Cody Coins (Millington, TN) had a battle with Chris Mallete that had to be settled in a 10-point tie breaker after both took a set. Coins would rally during the tiebreaker to defeat Mallete 10-6 and take the match.
Coins teamed up with Nathaniel Pinkney (Southaven) for an 8-5 double's win and Austin McElwain (Corinth) and David McElwain (West Point) followed suit with an 8-5 win of their own.
The McElwain duo went on to win both of their singles matches as well with Austin picking up a 6-2, 6-1 victory and David following with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Indians will return home for a pair of MACJC battles this weekend with Hinds Community College and Co-Lin Community College coming to Fulton. On Friday, the Indians will take on Hinds at 2 p.m. and finished out the week with a 10 a.m. showdown on Saturday with Co-Lin.
