Rains in Texas has thrown the schedule for the NJCAA DI Men's National Tennis Tournament into a frenzy.
Caleb Ballard (Shannon) and Joseph Summers (Amory) felt the brunt of that frenzy after combining to play four matches on Wednesday.
Summers defeated College of DuPage's (IL) Yash Patel 8-0 to advance to the semifinals of the No. 5 singles consolation bracket before teaming up with Ballard for a marathon of doubles matches.
The duo were defeated in the opening match of No. 3 doubles play 6-7 (3); 6-3; 6-2 by Harsha Manjunath and Zach Mustin of Vincennes College (IN) before rebounding to win back-to-back matches to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
Ballard and Summers defeated Dylan McArthur and Pedro Ruiz of New Mexico MI (NM) 8-4 and knocked off Andreaw Arnold and Alejandro Desiderio of Glendale CC (AZ) 8-2 in the quarterfinal round to wrap up their hectic Wednesday.
Nathan Pinkney (Southaven) and Austin McElwain (Corinth) also had a busy Wednesday with back-to-back matches in the No. 1 doubles consolation bracket.
In their first match of the day, the duo defeated in-state rivals Graham Lightsey and Harrison Thomas of Jones County JC 8-3 before securing their spot in the semifinals with an 8-2 win over Conrad Gainski and Samuel Raymond of College of DuPage (IL).
In No. 2 doubles action, Cody Coins (Millington, TN) and David McElwain (West Point) defeated Joshua Henkel and Carlos Medina of Pima CC (AZ) 9-4 to advance to the consolation bracket semifinals.
