The Itawamba Community College men's tennis team left little doubt in winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Championships this weekend at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

The Indians (13-1) won eight out of nine individual championships to earn their fourth MACJC title in the last five seasons and their first NJCAA Region 23 title since back-to-back championships in 2005 and 2006.

ICC swept the singles championships with Nathan Pinkney (Southaven) winning the No. 1 title, Austin McElwain (Corinth) winning the No. 2 title, David McElwain (West Point) winning the No. 3 title, Cody Coins (Millington, TN) winning the No. 4 championship, Joseph Summers (Amory) capturing the No. 5 title and Drew Ballard (Tupelo) completing the sweep by winning the No. 6 championship.

In doubles play, Pinkey and Austin McElwain combined to win the No. 1 championship and David McElwain and Coins won the No. 2 title while Summers and Ballard finished runner-up in the No. 3 championship match.

Coach Paul Johnson was named MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 Men's Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the championships.

Lady Indians earn 4th place finish

The Lady Indians (8-6) finished fourth in the championships with Kristen Eley (Mumford, TN) winning the No. 1 singles championship and Taylor Patterson (Olive Branch) capturing the No. 2 singles title before combining to win the No. 1 doubles championship.
