Foster wraps up NJCAA National Tournament play on Wednesday

Foster wraps up NJCAA National Tournament play on Wednesday

FOLEY, Ala. – Sophomore Cameron Foster (Southaven) concluded his season with the ICC golf team after tournament officials were forced to cut the field heading into the final day of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Men's Golf Championship due to weather concerns.

Foster carded an 80 (+8) on Wednesday for a total of 237 (+21) over 54 holes.

He opened the front-nine with a par on the 516-yard par five before bogies on No. 2, No. 5 and No. 9 along with a double bogie on No. 7 put him at 41 (+5) at the turn. After sitting through the second weather delay of the tournament, Foster bogied No. 11, No. 14 and No. No. 17 to finish the back-nine at 39 (+3).

Due to more weather delays expected on Thursday, the tournament committee made the decision to cut the field to better ensure the 72-hole tournament would be completed.

The field was cut to the top 15 teams and any team within 15 strokes of the leading team, and the top 24 individuals and any player within 15 strokes of the individual leader in accordance with the guidelines in the NJCAA Handbook and Casebook.

"The third round is now complete with the final couple groups finishing in the dark. With the weather events of the past two days and the forecast for tomorrow, the committee has made the difficult decision to make a cut before the final round," Dale R. Vos, NJCAA Region 12 Men's Director and Tournament Committee Chair said in a statement after the third round of play.

"While we do not believe this is the perfect system, we do believe it gives us the best opportunity to have a 72-hole champion while still maintaining the integrity of the individual awards."

Parkland (IL) College, powered by a sensational round by Kristian Kristensen, lept into the lead after the third round. The freshman from Denmark missed tying the course record by one shot with an 8-under 64 on the Vista Dunes Course. The Cobras shot 11-under as a team to move to 1-over through 54 holes.

Southeast (NE) Community College's Noah Hofman and South Mountain (AZ) Community College's Jeffery Miller held the individual lead at 6-under heading into the final day of play.
