RAYMOND, MS – The Indian golf team struggled in Day 1 of the Hinds Community College Invitational that was highlighted by snow and freezing temperatures at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond.

Chance Crawford (Houston) carded a team-best 83 (+11) to finish the opening round of the two-day event tied for 24th.

"An 83 isn't a bad score considering the weather conditions," said ICC golf coach Dr. David Rather. "It's unfortunate that the guys had to play in these weather conditions, but it is what it is and you have to do your best no matter the conditions."

Justin Jensen (Pontotoc) and Mitch Doom (New Albany) both turned in an 85 (+13) to be tied for 34th while Taylor Vaughn (Ackerman) finished tied at 37th with an opening-round 86 (+14).

"Days like today really test your game," Rather said. "It challenges your physically, but more than anything it challenges your mental strength because you typically stay home instead of going out to play 18 holes in the snow."

Dustin Jensen (Pontotoc) shot 90 (+18) and Charlie Uhiren (Houston) turned in a 93 (+21).

"Well there is obviously plenty of room for improvement for everyone," said Rather. "Hopefully we will have a lot better weather in the morning to be able to make a strong push to finish the tournament strong."

Copiah Lincoln turned in an impressive 313 (+25) to take a one-stroke lead over East Central after the opening day of the tournament.
