
Indians fall on the road to Northeast, 71-61

BOONEVILLE, MS - In a battle of division rivals, Itawamba Community College came up short Monday night as they fell 71-61 to Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Early in the contest, the teams exchanged baskets and the game was shaping up to be another rivalry classic. However, the Indians (12-9, 5-5 MACJC North) hit an offensive drought midway through the half and found themselves trailing 34-22 at the break.
In the second half, the Indians rallied and pulled within six, 61-55, with just under five minutes remaining, but the Tigers (14-6, 6-3 MACJC North) managed to pull away late and pick up the ten point victory, 71-61.
Carter Sweat (Piperton, TN) scored a game-high 19 points for the Indians, followed by Quentin Taylor (Edison, GA) with 15 points. Sophomore forward Howard Thomas (Brandon) added 10 points and grabbed 11 boards to pick up a double-double in the losing effort.
Kendall Stafford paced the Tigers with 16 points.
The Indians will face another tough road test on Thursday when they travel to Scooba to take on East Mississippi Community College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
