Ripley natives Dorian Gaston and Isaiah Howard have signed national letters of intent to continue their careers as student-athletes with the Lamar University football program next season.

Sophomore running back Octavious Matthews signed a national letter of intent to continue his football career at the University of Kansas on Wednesday.

"We did lose some really good players off last year's squad," said Cannon. "I think we were able to get some guys to come in to replace those guys in those positions. I feel like the first official day that we were able to meet a lot of our needs."

Eight student-athletes from the nationally ranked Itawamba Community College football program signed a national letter of intent on the first day of the mid-term signing period.

ICC had four players earn Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region honors when the league announced its postseason awards on Monday.

The ICC football team will look to build on the successes of the 2015 season in hopes for continued success in the upcoming 2016 season.
