Baseball outlasted by No. 15 East Central, 7-6

FULTON, MS – After outhitting No. 15 East Central Community College in game one, the Itawamba Community College baseball squad kept their bats hot as they once again picked up more hits in game two, but fell 7-6 to give the Warriors the sweep.
The Indians (22-18, 10-14 MACJC) trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the second, but rallied to score three runs and cut the lead down to one. Keith Stepter (Hernando), Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville) and Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc) ripped three consecutive singles to plate the first run of the inning.
Bases loaded walks by Hagan Box (French Camp) and Tyreque Reed (Houlka) pushed the other runs across in the bottom half of the second.
After having their lead cut to one, the Warriors pushed across three runs over the next two frames, but the Indians answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to keep the game close.
Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) drove in the first run on a double and Reed followed with a single to push Wheeler across.
Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) cut the Warriors lead to one again in the bottom of the sixth with a double that allowed Reed to score.
In the final frame, the Indians picked up one hit but was unable to find any last inning heroics, falling 7-6.
The sweep dropped the Indians to ninth place in the conference, one spot out of a playoff berth. However, they have four conference games left including two on Tuesday with Holmes Community College who sits just ahead of the Indians in the playoff race.
