Baseball rallies to take game one for MS Gulf Coast, 4-3

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College baseball program wrapped up Spring Break with a doubleheader with Missississippi Gulf Coast Community College Saturday and rallied to win game one 4-3.
The Indians (13-6, 1-2 MACJC) fell behind early in the nine inning affair as the visiting Bulldogs scored one run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Indians picked up a pair of runs with one swing of the bat on a Hagan Box (French Camp) triple down the right field line that scored Timothy Rowe (Hernando) and Ty Wheeler (Tupelo), who hit back-to-back singles to start the frame.
The Indians' 2-1 lead would hold until the Bulldogs (10-7, 2-3) hit a two run home run in the top of the eighth.
Trailing 3-2, the Indians were down to their final three outs, but Wheeler tied the contest with a single that scored Rowe, who led off the final frame with a double.
Wheeler moved around to third base after a sacrifice bunt by Bryan Malone (Belmont). With two outs, Bulldog pitcher Brandon Kennedy had a pitch gets passed the catcher, allowing Wheeler to score and give the Indians the 4-3 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Nick Burns (Mantachie) threw seven and two thirds innings, allowing only one run on five hits and struck out five in the no decision outing and Blake Appel (Gulf Port) picked up his first win of the season.
