Ben Jones served as head football coach at Itawamba Junior College for the 1973, 1974 and 1975 seasons.   He was named Mississippi Junior College Coach of the Year in 1974 and 1975.  The Indians won the North Championship in 1974 and won the State Championship in 1975.  At ICC, Jones coached the Indians to a 22-9-1 record.  As of 2019, the only undefeated team in the history of the ICC was in 1975 under his leadership.

Prior to ICC, Coach Jones coached at Itawamba Agricultural High School from 1963 to 1972.  At IAHS, his football teams went 81-15-7 and won seven Tombigbee Conference championships. 

His various other coaching assignments included Hatley High School, Gulfport High School, Tupelo High School, Meridian High School and New Albany High School.

His honors have included Big 8 Basketball Coach of the Year, Tombigbee Football Coach of the Year, Little 10 Football Conference Coach of the Year, North Mississippi High School All-Star Coach in 1971, President of the Mississippi Association of Coaches, chartered the Mississippi Association Coaches Hall of Fame in 1972, Southeastern United States High School Football Coach of the Year in 1972 and 1986, was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 1981 and was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 2017.

Jones is a 1948 graduate of Amory High School where he lettered in football three years and in baseball one year.  He earned a B.S. degree in physical education and a master’s degree from the University of Mississippi.

Coach Jones retired from coaching in 1986.
