Ketra Armstrong named to the 2014 ICC Athletic Hall
of Fame

Dr.
Ketra Armstrong of Tupelo will be inducted into the ICC
Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming Festivities on October
25.
Armstrong
graduated from ICC in 1983 with an A.A. degree in physical
education and pre-physical therapy focus. While earning her A.A.
degree, she was racking up on the court for the Lady Indians
basketball squad. She competed in the 1982 All-Star game after her
freshmen season and earned captains honors for both season.
Armstrong was also named the Best Offensive Player and All-State
Player both of her season in the red and blue.
After
an impressive sophomore season, Armstrong was named to the MACJC
All-Star game again, but also received the Scholastic Award for her
performance in the classroom. Once her time at ICC was finished,
Armstrong went to Southwestern Louisiana and continued her
basketball career. Later, she transferred to Mississippi State
University where she received both her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees.
Even
with three degrees under her belt, Armstrong wasn’t finished
as she went to Ohio State University to earn her Ph.D. While at
Ohio State, she worked as an assistant professor and a tenured
associate professor in sports management for seven years. Armstrong
didn’t end her basketball career once she quit playing as she
was the head coach for Columbus State Community College.
Throughout
her career, Armstrong has built an impressive resume. For eight
years, she was over the graduate program of sports management while
working at California State University, Long Beach. Currently,
Armstrong is a tenured professor in the school of Kinesiology in
the Department Sport Management at the University of Michigan. She
is also the associate dean for graduate and faculty affairs and
co-director of the Michigan Center for Sport Management.
Armstrong
also has an extensive list of professional honors is a perfect fit
for the ICC Athletic Hall of Fame.
