In her first year as head coach of the ICC Lady Indians, Gray’s team posted a 14-12 record and advanced to the MACJC State Tournament and the Region 23 Tournament.

In 2007-08, the 21-9 Lady Indians were both North Division and MACJC State champions and participated in the Region 23 Tournament. Gray’s 2011-12 team finished the season 26-3 and claimed North Division and MACJC State championships and was Region 23 runner-up.

Gray’s teams have participated in both the MACJC State and Region 23 tournaments every year.

From 1979-89, Gray served as junior high coach and assistant coach at Houlka High School.

At Bruce High School, where she coached from 1989-1997, Gray’s record was 182-65. She was Tri Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 1991. During her tenure, the Lady Trojans were 3A District Champs and regular participants in the state tournament. She was the Mississippi Association of Coaches North All-Star Coach in 1994.

Gray began her coaching career at Tupelo High School in 1997. She was named the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999 and 2005. Her team earned four 5A District One championships. Other honors include Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Coach of the Year in 1999, Daily Journal Lee County Coach of the Year in both 2001 and 2002, Mississippi Association of Coaches Mississippi All-Star Coach in 2001 and 2003, Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year and Division 2 5A Coach of the Year.

Her total high school record was 446-112. She has coached the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year, SEC Freshman of the Year, an All-SEC team member, WNBA Player for Indian Fever and Connecticut Sun, NJCAA Academic All-American and NJCAA All-American.

A graduate of Houlka High School, Gray played varsity basketball all four years. In 1972, her team was state runner-up and she was named MAC All-State and in 1974, MAC All-Star Player.

As a player for the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians in 1974-76, Gray’s honors included MACJC State Championship, Region 23 Championship, NJCAA National Tournament in Vincennes, Ind., All-American honorable mention and MACJC runner-up.

She was inducted into Itawamba Community College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.

Gray’s additional honors and activities include Special Olympics Coach (1979-93), Special Olympics International Games (Notre Dame), Special Olympics World Games (Minneapolis/St. Paul), Lee County Courier Women of the ‘90s and Teacher of Distinction at Tupelo High School.
