Joel Neal Grisham transferred from Itawamba Junior College after
playing football and basketball in 1955 and became a highly
decorated student athlete at Austin Peay as a member of the
football and track teams.
While at Austin Peay, he was named All-Volunteer State Athletic
Conference and team MVP in 1956 along with earning the Russell
Award, presented for leadership, scholarship and athletic
ability.
In track, he set the school record in both the 440-yard dash and
the javelin while serving as the anchor on the mile relay and also
running the 220-yard dash.
Grisham received the Joy Award, symbolic of Austin Peay's
