D.D. "Dot" Leathers' list of achievements at Itawamba Community
College from 1948-1950 was quite lengthy.
He was captain of the first football team, the first men's
basketball team and was a member of the first baseball team at then
Itawamba Junior College.
Leathers was named All-Mississippi Valley Conference in basketball
and was the first recipient of the first athletic scholarship at
the college. He later became the first student-athlete to earn
an athletic scholarship at a four-year school and was voted Most
Athletic by the student body.
He also served as president of the first graduating class.
Leathers played football and basketball at Bethel College where he
was a started and lettered both years in both sports.
