ICC Women’s Soccer trio signs to the Next Level

ICC Women’s Soccer trio signs to the Next Level

Fulton, Miss. – A trio of Itawamba Community College's women's soccer players have signed to continue their student-athlete careers. Luz Elena Acosta and Brittany Mathis head to Belhaven University, and Maisy Sumner to Bethel University.

Acosta, a defender from Tupelo, helped anchor the Lady Indians back line during their historic 2019 season that culminated in advancing to the conference finals. She played in 34 games during her two years under the direction of Coach David Strother.

Mathis, a forward from Pontotoc, scored 15 goals and picked up 10 assists in her two years in the red and blue. She also scored three game winners in her career at ICC and finished with 40 points, 27 of which came during the deep playoff run last season.

Sumner, who came to ICC from Blackburn, England, will continue her career in the states as she will head north to Tennessee to play for Bethel. The sophomore defender helped the Lady Indians win 26 games in her two seasons and she scored two goals in her 37 games played.

The trio helped the Lady Indians set program records by winning 17 games last season, going on a 16-game win streak and going deeper in the playoffs than ever before.
