MCKENZIE, TN – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer team stepped out of NJCAA play Tuesday and picked up a 3-1 win over Bethel University's JV squad.
The Indians (3-3-1, 1-2-1 MACJC North) wasted little time going on the attack. Hunter Johnson (Tupelo) set up Sabi Malli (Tupelo) for the first goal of the afternoon in the third minute of the match.
After Bethel found the equalizer, Will Holman (Olive Branch) helped the Indians regain the lead, 2-1, on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.
Johnson scored off an assist from Zach Ellis (Tupelo) to give the Indians a 3-1 lead going into the break.
The two goal lead proved to be enough as the defense held strong in the second half to give the Indians the win.
The Indians will host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday and Pearl River Community College on Sunday. Both non-division matches are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
