Football adds three new assistant coaches

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College has officially added three assistant coaches to Travis Macon's staff for the 2024 football season.

Macon announced the hiring of new offensive coordinator Dan Ellington, wide receivers coach Marcus Green, and defensive line coach Robert Hentz.

Ellington joins the Indians' coaching staff after spending the past four seasons at Georgia State University, where he coached tight ends and running backs. He was a member off the offensive staff that led Georgia State to a school-record scoring average of 33.3 points, along with nearly 200 yards rushing per game. A native of Olive Branch, Ellington was quarterback at ICC (2016-17) and was selected as an NJCAA All-American and MACCC Player of the Year in 2017. He continued his career at Georgia State (2018-19), where he was a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection and helped lead the Panthers to three-straight winning seasons, including a school-record eight wins and three-straight bowl games.

Green comes to Fulton after coaching wide receivers at North Pontotoc High School. He spent four seasons at the University of Louisiana-Monroe (2014-18), where he was selected as 2017 All-Sun Belt First Team All-Purpose and Return specialist and Second Team All-American after leading the NCAA in kick return touchdowns. In 2018, he was selected First Team All-Sun Belt Receiver. He finished his career ranked in the Top 3 in every ULM receiving category. The New Albany native was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles (2019-20), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2021) in the Canadian Football League and the United States Football League's New Jersey Generals (2023).

Hentz previously served as defensive line coach at North Panola High School after a highly-decorated football career. He was an all-state and all-region selection at South Panola High School (2014-18). Hentz earned NJCAA All-American, All-Region, All-Conference and Academic All-American honors at Northwest Mississippi Community College (2019). The Batesville native was considered one of the Top 10 community college defensive tackles when he signed with Kansas State University. He saw action in 35 games for the Wildcats and earned All-Big 12 Academic selection in 2021 and 2022.

The trio joins Kareem Moore, assistant head coach, defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator, defensive coordinator; Justin Lucas, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach; and Eddie Krajewski, offensive line coach, to round out Macon's coaching staff.
