HATTIESBURG, MS – In the world of powerlifting, ICC defensive line and strength and conditioning coach Ray Williams is quickly becoming a household name.
Williams won the Super Heavyweight and Overall divisions by amassing an American record of 2,177 total pounds during the Southern USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Raw Championships in Hattiesburg on Saturday.
He set a new American record by officially squatting 903 pounds after lifts of 925 and 953 were disqualified after judges said he stepped towards the rack before the command was given.
Williams broke his old record of 882 pounds that he set during the USAPL National Raw Powerlifting Championships in Orlando, FL.
He lifted 750 pounds in the deadlift after pulling 799 pounds, but failed to wait for the command to release the weight.
The Demopolis, AL native set a personal best when he benched 523 pounds.
