Smith named MACJC Defensive Player of the Week

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College sophomore linebacker Brandon Smith earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Indians' third-straight win over Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Smith had five tackles, two tackles for a loss of eight yards, one sack for a loss of five yards, one interception returned 42 yards for a touchdown, two fumble recoveries that set up a pair ICC touchdowns and returned a blocked punt 23 yards to set up another touchdown to help lead the Indians past the rival Tigers 36-15 on Saturday.
The Aberdeen native is currently third on the team with 50 tackles (37 solo; 13 assists) with 11 tackles for a loss of 54 yards and 3.5 sacks for a loss of 22 yards. He leads the team with four fumble recoveries that he has returned for a second-best 34 yards and is second on the team with two interceptions returned for a team-high 80 yards and a touchdown along with three pass break ups.
Smith is the third Indian to earn Player of the Week honors this season. Freshman quarterback Andrew Goodman (Charlotte, NC) earned MACJC Offensive Player of the Week honors along with sophomore linebacker Deryck Gildon (Arlington, TX) earned MACJC and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier is this season.
