Toney named MACJC Player of the Week

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College sophomore Erika Toney was named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday.
The 5'8 guard from Horn Lake averaged 11.7 points, 10 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.7 blocks per game during the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament in Clinton.
Toney, who earned NJCAA Region 23 All-Tournament honors, helped the Lady Indians (23-6) to their first ever back-to-back Region 23 titles.
In the tournament opener, Toney had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Lady Indians' 58-57 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College. Against Baton Rouge Community College, Toney led the Lady Indians to a 71-45 win 12 points and 11 boards.
Toney scored nine and grabbed nine rebounds in the 68-64 championship win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
The Lady Indians, who have won three of the last four Region 23 crowns, earned a N0. 21 seed at the NJCAA Women's National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. They will faced No. 12 seed Blinn College Monday, March 14 at 8:00 pm.
