Lady Indians look to rebound in Region 23 Tournament

FULTON, MS - The ICC women's basketball team will look to win its third region championship this week at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi College.
ICC (20-4) enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed after a disappointing showing in the MACJC Tournament and will take on No. 3 seed East Central Community College (20-5) at noon in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Both the Lady Indians and Lady Warriors were eliminated from last week's conference tournament by Meridian Community College (17-10), who enters this week's region tournament as the No. 2 seed.

The Lady Indians have not faced East Central this season and the last time the two teams met they split their home and away series during the 2012-13 season with the Lady Indians picking up an 85-65 victory in Fulton before dropping a 67-65 decision in Decatur.
East Central is led in scoring by Jalesia Jones (13.9 ppg) and Tashi-ana Thompson (13.8 ppg) while Shakerya Morrison is averaging a double-double (12.7 ppg; 10.9 rpg) on the season. Samantha Duncan (11.2) and Tynika Bender (10.1) are also averaging double digits in scoring for the Lady Warriors.
ICC is led in scoring by Jayla Chills' (Ripley) 18.8 points per game while Jeronia Allen (Minden, LA) and Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) are both averaging 12.3 points per outing with Alontra Tucker (Lamar) chipping in 10.3 points per game for the Lady Indians.
The winner between ICC and East Central will advance to Friday's semifinal at 6:00 p.m. to face the winner between No. 1 seed and No. 16 ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College (26-0) and No. 7 seed Holmes Community College (16-8).
Meridian faces No. 6 seed Northwest Mississippi Community College (18-6) while No. 1 seed out of Louisiana Baton Rouge Community College (14-14) will face No. 4 seed Jones County Junior College (17-7) in the bottom half of the bracket.

All games are being held at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton. The women's half of the tournament begins tomorrow and concludes with the championship game slated for 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
