FULTON, MS – After capturing their fourth North Division Championship in the past eight years, the ICC Lady Indians will take on fourth-seeded Meridian Community College at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23 in the opening round of the MACJC Tournament at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS.
"We're excited to have the opportunity to play for the state championship," said Coach Nanci Gray, who has won two MACJC State titles in nine seasons at ICC. "The girls have worked hard all season long to be in this position and hopefully we can continue to build on the success we have had during the regular season to make a push towards another state title."
The Lady Indians (20-3) enter the tournament as the top seed out of the North Division while host and nationally-ranked Co-Lin (23-0) holds the same seeding out of the South Division.
ICC faced Meridian (15-9) twice during the regular season and came away with a pair of victories over in the Lady Eagles – 95-59 in Fulton and 75-65 in Meridian.
"It's tough to beat anybody three times in one season," said Gray. "We've got to put the regular season behind us and focus on playing our best each time we take the floor. This time of year it's about executing on offense, playing hard on defense, and trying to win the battle on the boards."
The winner of Monday's game will advance to the semifinals to face the winner between two-seeded East Central Community College (19-4) and three-seeded Holmes Community College (16-7) at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a trip to Thursday night's championship game on the line.
"Anybody can beat anybody in this league and we saw that in last year's state tournament on our own home floor," said Gray. "We have stressed that you can't take anyone for granted this time of year because as soon as you do your season will be over."
No. 20 Co-Lin will face fourth-seeded East Mississippi (12-11) while two-seeded Northwest (18-5) will take on three-seeded Jones County (16-6) during the night session on Wednesday.
