TUSCALOOSA, AL – In a battle of NJCAA National Tournament qualifiers, Kendara Watts scored a game-high 19 points as No. 9 Shelton State Community College handed the ICC Lady Indians their first loss of the season 83-66 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Bucs (3-1) shot a blistering 65.5-percent from the floor, including connecting on 46.2-percent of their three-point attempts in the first half while the Lady Indians (2-1, 0-0 MACJC North) could only manage 45.5-percent shooting while hitting on 2-of-8 threes.
"We got out to a slow start and you can't do that against a team like Shelton State," said Coach Nanci Gray. "I didn't feel like our focus was where it should've been because we made a lot of mental mistakes on defense and didn't take care of the ball like we are capable of doing."
Latoya Collins (Forest Hill) paced the Lady Indians with 15 points with Justice Martin (HW Byers) had 11 and Jayla Chills (Ripley) added 10 in the loss.
"Hopefully we can rebound and learn from this loss to keep getting better throughout the rest of the season," said Gray.
The Lady Indians will travel to Jones County Junior College on Thursday before closing their four-game road stint at Meridian Community College on Thursday, November 21.
