Golf punches ticket to NJCAA Region 23 Tournament

The ICC golf team earned its best finish of the season to advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 tournament at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier.
ICC finished fifth in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Tournament at Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson with a 618 team total. Meridian Community College took home to state title with a 576 two-day total.
Kirk Reeder (Tupelo) and Brandon Walker (Vardaman) led the Indians and finished tied for 13th with a 150 (+6). Reeder carded a 77 (+5) on the opening day of the tournament and a 73 (+1) on the final day of play. Walker fired an opening round 76 (+4) before closing the tournament with a 74 (+2).
Nick Brown (Mooreville) rebounded from an opening round 81 (+9) with a 78 (+6) to finish the tournament finished tied for 27th at 159 (+15). Andrew McDonald (Fulton) totaled a 160 (+16) to finish tied for 29th after carding an 82 (+10) to start the tournament and closing with a 78 (+6).
Todd Harrell (Vardaman) slipped four spots on the final day of play to finish tied for 36th with a 164 (+20) two-day total. He fired an opening round 81 (+9) before carding an 83 (+11) to close the tournament.
The NJCAA Region 23 tournament will be hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on April 24-25.
