The Itawamba Community College golf team opened the 2013 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) season at the Pine Course of Diamondhead County Club in Bay St. Louis, MS on Sunday.
Scott Milam (Tupelo) fired an opening round 85 (+13) to finish in a five-way tie for 22nd to help lead the Indians to sixth place with a team score of 343 (+55) after first day of the two-day event.
"The first event of the year is always the toughest," said ICC coach Dr. David Rather. "It's a lot different going up against guys that you haven't played with before verses guys that you have practiced with all year."
Three Indians finished in a six-way tie for 27th at +14 as Jake Scott (Shannon), Sam Warren (Saltillo) and Tyler Rosenthal (Shannon) each carded an 86 while Dustin Poole (Belmont) turned in an opening round 92 (+20) on Sunday.
"We got a little meat left on the bone, but I told the guys to go out and play their game and not try to make up three or four strokes on every swing because that's when you start getting yourself in trouble," Rather commented on Monday's play.
Co-Lin turned in an opening round 314 (+26) to take a two-stroke lead over host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after 18 of the scheduled 36-hole tournament.
