BROOKHAVEN, MS – The Itawamba Community College golf team finished ninth in their third stop of the 2012 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) golf season with a 668 showing in the Co-Lin Invitational.
"It's still early in the season," said ICC golf coach David Rather. "A lot of these guys are still trying to adjust to back-to-back rounds of 18 holes of golf. It's a bigger adjustment from what they are use physically and mentally than some of them thought it would be, but I think we have the talent to make some noise this season."
Matt Belk and Tyler Rosenthal finished tied for 36th at 162 for the two-day event. Belk turned in an opening-round score of 82 and closed the tournament with an 80 while Rosenthal carded a 79 and 83 on the final day of play.
"Matt and Tyler both played well," said Rather. "They took away some positives from their rounds that they can take into practice to make some corrections for the next tournament."
Dustin Poole finished in a three-way tie for 44th at 170 (81-89) with Sam Warren finishing T49 at 174 (87-87) and Aaron Carter finishing alone at 56th with a 190 (94-96).
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College won the event with a 580 total and Drew Seals taking home medalist honors (70-71-141).
The two-day tournament was played at Brookhaven Country Club and Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson.
