Indians come up short in bid for Region 23 Tournament

AMORY, MS – Mother Nature was the ultimate winner after washing out the second round of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Championship Tournament at Riverbirch Golf Club.
"I really felt like we were position to make a move today," said ICC head coach David Rather. "We had some good first round scores and have been turning in strong second rounds over the past few tournaments, but there's not a whole lot you can do when Mother Nature takes over."
Sophomore Matt Belk finished alone in sixth with a 74 to earn a spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament as an individual while fellow sophomore John Michael Parker also earned a spot in next week's tournament by carding a 78 to finish tied for 14th.
"Matt and John Michael played some really solid practice rounds coming into the tournament," Rather said. "I felt like they would have a chance to make some noise this week."
Dustin Poole finished 21st with an 80, Eric Symes was tied for 22nd at 81 and Tyler Rosenthal carded a 86 to finish tied for 39th.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College earned the MACJC Championship at 297 with Brad Thornton taking home medalist honor carding a 70.
Earning MACJC First Team honors was Brad Thornton (Gulf Coast), Jack Sargent (Gulf Coast), Marcus Fox (Gulf Coast), Jared Smith (Gulf Coast) and Cameron Thomas (Northwest) while Hunter Hood (Co-Lin), Keaton Stamps (Co-Lin), Alex Clark (Co-Lin), Chad Cupples (Northwest) and Weston Wallace (East Mississippi) was named to the MACJC Second Team.
