Fulton, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College Indians and No. 22 Northeast Mississippi Community College renewed their rivalry Thursday night, and it was an instant classic. A last second shot forced overtime, before Northeast was able to pick up a 90-85 win.
Trailing 76-73 with 11 seconds left in regulation, The Indians (1-1) called a timeout to set up a last second shot to try and tie the contest and force overtime. After an off target shot, Hunter Stacy (Biggersville) tipped the loose ball to Rock Robinson (Pontotoc) who drained a three-pointer to force overtime.
The overtime period was a battle but the Tigers were able to extend their lead enough to pick up the win.
At halftime, the Indians led 32-29 and the lead exchanged hands several times in the second before Robinson's last second three.
The Indians shot 39.2 percent from the field in the overtime thriller and were led by Fred Cleveland, Jr (Chicago, Ill.) with a career-high 31 points. Following Cleveland was Walter Hamilton (Potts Camp) and Robinson with 12 points each.
Saturday, the Indians will travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Huntingdon College JV at 4 p.m.
