Fulton, Miss. – The Indians and Lawson State Cougars went head-to-head in a tight battle and despite ICC pulling within one several times, the Cougars picked up a 60-53 victory.
The Indians (1-5) got off to a slow start but pulled within one, 20-19, on a Tyler Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) basket with just under three minutes left until halftime, and only trailed 24-21 at the break.
Early in the second half, Smith tied the game at 29-29, and with just under two minutes remaining, Travonta Doolittle (Hughes, Ark.) made a lay-up to cut the lead to 53-49. However, the Cougars were able to hold on and pick up the six-point win, 60-53.
Kendricus Carlton (Batesville) had 14 points in the second half and led the Indians with a career-high 20 points and added 12 rebounds. Smith finished with a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Indians will travel to Gadsden, Ala. Thursday night for a non-division game with Gadsden State Community College. Tip-off is schedule for 5:30 p.m.
