FULTON, Miss. – Joseph Jones (Tupelo) has signed with the Belhaven University men's basketball team.
The 6-foot-2 guard will be joining former teammate Tommy McCoy (Woodville) as a member of the Blazers' basketball team next season. He will have three years of eligibility after redshirting his freshman season.
Jones averaged 4.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season. He scored a career-high 12 points – twice against Lawson State (Ala.) Community College and at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He recorded a double-double after scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-best 12 rebounds in the Indians' 88-59 win over Lawson State on November 13, 2017.
He scored in double figures five times and contributed points in all but four of 20 games played last season. He grabbed six or more rebounds in eight games and played the final six games of his career in Fulton with a broken finger.
Jones shot 53.3 percent from the floor and connected on 68.3 percent of his free throw attempts. He earned MACJC Academic All-State for his performance in the classroom.
He is the second member of the Indians' squad to sign to continue their career after NJCAA All-American Brian Halums (Simmons) signed with Ole Miss in November.
