Indians drop tough loss to Shelton State, 59-54

FULTON, MS – In a game that saw nine lead changes and five ties, the Indians saw Shelton State Community College take care of business from the free throw line down the stretch to escape Fulton with a 59-54 victory.
A pair of emphatic dunks by Tre Jenkins (Tupelo) and Marcus Carouthers (Aberdeen) gave the Indians a 32-25 lead early in the second half, but Shelton State (5-0) answered with a nine to two run to make it a 34-33 game in favor of the Indians.
After falling behind 44-38, Charles Brown (New Orleans, LA) scored eight straight points to give the Indians a 54-53 lead with one minute, 34 seconds left in the game. The Bucs regained the lead, 57-54, after a questionable foul on a rebound went against the Indians allowed Christopher Dudley to knock down a pair of free throws.
Brown paced the Indians with 17 points.
The Indians missed a slightly-contested three on its ensuing possession and quickly fouled in hopes to extend the contest, but Dudley knocked down two more free throws to put the game on ice for the Bucs.
Dudley with five for six from the charity stripe in the final minutes of the game and finished with 14 points on the night.
Tra'Quan Knight led the Bucs with 20 point.
ICC fell to 1-2 with the loss and will look to rebound on the road Thursday night against Jones County Junior College.
Free Throw Woes
The Indians went 8 of 15 from the line while the Bucs connected on 17 of their 29 attempts on the night. As a team, the Indians are 28 of 47 (59.6%) from the charity stripe in their first three games of the season. The Indians went 18 of 23 in their 75-66 win over Lurleen B. Wallace.
Crashing Carouthers
Carouthers provided a spark for the Indians off the bench. The red shirt freshman made an immediate impact in the game grabbing four-straight offensive rebounds resulting in a nine-point swing for the Indians. The Aberdeen native finished the game with nine rebounds.
On the Road Again… and again… and again… and again…
ICC will finish out the month of November with a pair of road games at Jones County (Nov. 17) and Shelton State (Nov. 28) and will open the month of the December with two more road games against Arkansas State Mid-South (Dec. 1) and Holmes (Dec. 5). The Indians' next home game will be against Wallace-Selma (Dec. 7).
