FULTON, MS - Itawamba Community College and Mississippi Delta Community College's men's team finished the regular season an intense showdown Monday night, and the home team Indians held on to win a 70-67 thriller.
The Indians (13-10, 6-6 MACJC North) led by as much has 10 in the first half and held a nine point, 34-25, advantage at the break.
For most of the second half, the Indians stayed on top, but the Trojans (11-11, 3-8 MACJC North) rallied and took their first lead of the contest on a slam dunk with 3:04 remaining. The team traded baskets, but two Quenten Taylor (Edison, GA) jump shots and a Howard Thomas (Brandon) put the indians head by three, 68-65 with 20 seconds left on the clock.
Delta would pull within one again, but Taylor hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead to three once again. The Trojans threw up a three-pointer in the closing seconds, but it was off target and Thomas grabbed the rebound as time expired to secure the 70-67 Indian victory.
Barri Hill (Jasper, Al) and Taylor led the Indians with 12 points each and Travon Harper paced the Trojans with 20 points.
