FULTON, MS – After jumping out to big first half lead, the Itawamba Community College men's basketball program had to fight off a second half surge by Volunteer State Community College to pick up the 72-64 win.
The Indians (3-0) led by as many as 30 points in the contest and held a 45-21 lead at halftime led by freshman guard Martaveous McKnight (Walls), who scored 14 first half points.
Late in the second half, the Indians struggled to find an offensive rhythm, allowing the Pioneers (1-3) to put together a 12-0 run and cut into the big lead.
Despite the big run by the Pioneers, the early deficit was too much to overcome, and the Indians held on to pick up the win and remain unbeaten.
McKnight led the Indains with 16 points, followed by Cody North with 12 points and Howard Thomas with 11 points.
After three games in the friendly surroundings of the Davis Event Center, the Indians will face their first road test of the season on Thursday, November 12 when they travel to Ellisville to take on Jones County Junior College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
