SENATOBIA, MS – The Indians dropped their opening North Division road contest 83-73 Monday night to the Rangers, whose 18-0 run in the second half propelled them to victory.
In the first half, the Indians (4-5, 1-1) controlled the tempo and led by as much 12 points, 28-16, after an Austin Timms (Mooreville) jumper with seven minutes left on the clock. The Rangers pulled within 3-points, but a Tyrone Wooten (Memphis, TN) 3-pointer in the closing minutes of the half, gave the Indians a 40-34 lead at the break.
It was a back-and-forth battle early in the second half with the Rangers (7-3, 1-1) quickly closing in on the Indians. As the half continued, the Indians held a 7-point lead with just under eleven minutes remaining, but then the Rangers led by Kieth Broome Jr. caught fire.
The Rangers put together an 18-0 run over the next five minutes to take the lead and extend it to 70-57 with six minutes left to play. In the closing minutes, the Indians battled to try and regain the lead, but the run was too much to overcome as they fell 83-73.
Timms led the Indians with 17 points, followed by Kevis Fleming (Robinsonville) with 15 and Howard Thomas (Brandon) who added 13. Broome led the Rangers with 22-points off the bench.
The Indians will travel to Meridian Thursday for a non-division matchup with the Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
