FULTON, MS – After leading ICC to their first MACJC Tournament Championship since 2008, second-year men's basketball coach Grant Pate has been named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Coach of the Year.
"It's a great honor, but to be honest it an award that's based on our program," said Pate. "There are so many that are involved with our program that contributed to our success this season. I've been blessed to be around a lot of good folks because we are only as good as the folks that are around us."
After missing the playoffs last season, the Indians finished 17-10 overall and 9-3 to win the MACJC North Division Championship and advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 quarterfinals in Clinton.
"I have to credit our players and Coach [Adam] Kirk for all the dedication they put into the season," Pate commented. "There are a lot of hands beyond basketball that are involved in an individual award, but it takes a whole program to be successful and have things like this happen."
