FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College sophomore point guard Alex Anderson was the top vote-getter for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's All-Region 23 team released on Monday.
Anderson (Memphis, TN) led ICC in three stat categories averaging 16.7 points, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals and had 2.5 rebounds per game to help the Indians (17-10, 9-3 MACJC North) capture the MACJC North Division title, the team's first MACJC Championship since 2008 and advance to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 23 tournament.
"Alex was with us for one year, but he meshed with the rest of the guys right away," said Coach Grant Pate. "Our guys had instant respect for him as soon as he joined the team because he was such a great leader on and off the court and that was a big part of what helped us achieve a lot great things this season."
He finished the season ranked sixth in the nation after shooting a team-high 88.9 percent from the free throw line and led the team by shooting 49.1 percent from the floor. Anderson was third on the team shooting 36.9 percent from three point range.
Anderson is eligible for All-American status, which will be announced near the conclusion of the NJCAA Men's National Tournament.
Joining Anderson on the NJCAA All-Region 23 team is Twymond Howard (Southwest Mississippi CC), Roger Woods (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC), Jacolby Mobley (East Mississippi CC), Avery Woodson (East Mississippi CC), Jeremy Holliman (Pearl River CC), Johnny Zuppardo (Jones County JC), Chris Bilbo (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC), Devonta Pollard (East Mississippi CC) and Tristan Moore (Northwest Mississippi CC).
