FULTON, MS -- Itawamba Community College is saddened to announce the passing of legendary Hall of Fame men's basketball coach Kindle "Bud" Davis.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Coach Davis," said ICC President Dr. David C. Cole. "This is truly a sad day for the ICC family. Our deepest heart-felt thoughts and prayers are extended to the Davis family."
Davis passed away at the age of 86 at his home in Memphis, TN after a brief illness on Saturday, February 23.
Named head coach at then Itawamba Junior College in 1954, he led the Indians to five North Division championships, two state championships and had two undefeated seasons (1960-61; 61-62) with what would later be dubbed the "Team of the Century" before retiring in 1962.
In 1992, Davis and his twin brother Windle "Buster" Davis were inducted into the ICC Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2008, both were enshrined in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Athletic Hall of Fame and had the Davis Event Center named after them when it was opened in January of the same year.
"Bud and Buster were true pioneers, great ambassadors for ICC and great friends to me and my family," Cole commented.
A special visitation will be held Monday, February 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Davis Event Center.
Another visitation will be held at White Station Church of Christ on Colonial Road in Memphis from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service following on Tuesday, February 26.
A private interment service will be held Wednesday morning.
