FULTON, MS – The Rangers took 48 free throws and made 37 while the Indians took advantage of 10 of their 13 trips to the charity stripe in their 90-89 road loss to league-leading Northwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday.
"Northwest is a really good basketball team," said ICC head basketball coach Grant Pate. "They don't lose a lot when they have to go to their bench and they do a great job of taking advantage of your mistakes and do an outstanding job of making free throws when they get to the line."
Six Indians scored in double figures with sophomore Tre' Wells (Tuscaloosa, AL) and Quintin Lee (Ripley, TN) each scoring a team-high 13 points.
"They really got physical with Tre' early in the game and that seemed to light a fire in him that we haven't seen in a while," Pate commented. "I really wish I knew what we could do to flip that switch in him every night because we are a totally different team when he plays the way he did tonight."
Freshman Johnthan McGee (Jackson) scored 12 with sophomore Deontaye Ewing (Tupelo) and freshman Chris Harris (Starkville) each adding 11 points while freshman Tory Rice (Starkville) chipped in 10 points on the night.
Charles Eaton scored a game-high 21 points, including going 12-of-12 from the free throw line, for the Rangers.
