FULTON, MS -- The Grant Pate Era didn't get off to the start the first-year head coach had hoped as the Indians dropped a 103-80 decision to Shelton State on Monday.
"This was an extremely tough game and we knew that coming in," said Pate. "We saw a lot of wrinkles that we going to have to work on ironing out, but this is the type of game that we will learn from and build on for the future."
Sophomore Deontaye Ewing (Tupelo) paced the Indians with a team-high 18 points while sophomore Quintin Lee (Ripley, TN) and freshman Johnthan McGee (Jackson) added 16 points each.
"We have to do a better job rebounding, protecting the ball and executing on offense," said Pate.
Freshman Jarvis Tillman (Bruce) came off the bench to provide 10 points for the Indians.
The Indians (0-1, 0-0 MACJC North) will look to rebound from the season-opening loss when they host East Central Community College on Thursday.
