DECATUR, MS – The Itawamba Community College baseball squad came up just short and on the wrong side of a couple close plays to fall 9-6 in game one to East Central Community College Friday.
The Indians (25-10, 12-7 MACJC) fell behind 4-0 after four innings in the nine inning affair, but rallied to score four runs in the fifth to tie the game.
After the Warriors regained the lead with a run in the bottom half, Tyreque Reed (Houlka) crushed a solo home run to tie the game once again in the top of the seventh.
The tie would be broken though as Keith Stepter (Hernando) doubled to score Kyle Weaver (Courtland) and give the Indians a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors answered with a run to tie the game and then would get some help in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead.
After a sacrifice fly plated the go ahead run, the Warriors were able to plate an insurance run on a double steal attempt that the Indians appeared to record the out on, but the runner was called safe.
The Warriors went on to plate another run and picked up the 9-6 victory in game one.
