Baseball routes East MS in game one 14-2

SCOOBA, MS – An offensive explosion of 19 hits and 14 runs led the Itawamba Community College baseball program to a dominating 14-2 game one win over East Mississippi Community College Tuesday night.
The Indians (22-15, 10-11 MACJC) jumped out to an early lead as Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) and Hagan Box (French Camp) hit back-to-back run scoring singles with two outs in the top of the first.
With the early lead, the Indians bats went cold for two innings but quickly heated up in the fourth with three hits highlighted by a run scoring single by Bryan Malone (Belmont).
In the fifth and six frames, the Indians picked up eight hits including a two run opposite field home run by Timothy Rowe (Hernando) and Wheeler, who finished 4-for-6, picking up his second and third RBI singles.
The Lions (11-24, 7-12 MACJC) picked up two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two run scoring double by Taylor Stafford, but trailed the surging Indians 9-2 after six complete.
Malone, who finished 3-for-5, extended the Indians lead to 11-2 in the eighth on a run scoring single that drove in his fourth RBI of the contest.
Tyreque Reed (Houlka) capped off the hitting parade in the ninth by picking up his seventh home run of the season on a no doubter that pushed across three runs and give the Indians the 14-2 game one win and extend their winning streak to six.
With a comfortable lead for most of the game, Blake Bennett (Memphis, TN) picked up the win to improve to 5-3 this season.
