Four ICC teams earn NJCAA Academic honors

FULTON, Miss – Four ICC athletic programs were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as some of the nation's top academic programs from the 2016-17 season on Monday.

The women's soccer program finished the year with a 3.47 team GPA, third-best in the country, while women's tennis (3.60), softball (3.36), and men's tennis (3.23) also qualified for national academic honorable mention honors.

ICC had 37 student-athletes earn individual national academic recognition earlier this month.

Since 1993, the NJCAA has recognized the team with the highest overall grade-point average for their sport and gender with the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award. Teams that qualify with an overall grade-point average of at least a 3.0 are receive honorable mention recognition. Nominations are submitted by each team's respective institution.
