FULTON, MS -- Sophomore QB Canden Dallas
(Pontotoc) has been selected the 2011 Bennie Abram LEGACY Award
recipient by the Itawamba Community College football coaching
staff.
“Canden is very deserving of this honor,” said ICC head
football coach Jon Williams. “If you had a
team filled with guys like him you would be in great shape to win a
lot of ballgames. He is the consummate team player and an
outstanding leader for our football team both on and off the
field.”
The Pontotoc native totaled 132 yards on 10-of-21 passing and
directed game-winning drives against Coahoma and Mississippi Delta
to help the Indians finish 5-4; 4-2 MACJC North as a freshman.
The annual award is given to the player the coaches feels best
reflects the life and legacy of former Indian defensive back Bennie
Abram.
“Bennie was a young man that possessed a lot of outstanding
traits that coaches look for in athletes and people in
general,” said Williams.
The LEGACY acronym was established by the coaches to reflect
Abram’s leadership, effort, gratitude, academic passion,
character and his yeoman (a common man) way of life.
The award is given to a sophomore that maintains a 3.0 or above
GPA. The recipient will serves as team captain throughout the
season and will wear a patch with Abram’s number
“30” on his jersey.
Dallas’ name will go on a plaque enshrined in the ICC
football field house that helps preserve the spirit Abram brought
to Itawamba Community College.
