Scooba, Miss. – The Lady Indians' 16-game winning streak came to an end Monday night as their late rally fell just short, losing 56-54 to East Mississippi.
After falling behind by 16 points in the first half, the Lady Indians (18-3, 10-1 MACJC North) stormed back to make it a 56-52 game on a Shaniyah Buford (Abbville) three-pointer with 21.7 seconds left in the game.
The Lady Indians quickly fouled and East Mississippi missed a pair of free throws to keep the lead at four, 56-52, and the Lady Indians took a timeout to advance the ball to mid-court.
Kealy Wilson (Olive Branch) scored a basket after an offensive rebound to make it a 56-54 game, and the Lady Lions turned the ball over on a travel call with eight seconds left in regulation.
As time expired, the Lady Indians missed a game-winning three, allowing East Mississippi to escape with a 56-54 win.
Taneshia Miller (Greenville) paced the Lady Indians with 11 points with Wilson adding 10 points. The loss was the first since week two this season, but it will not change the Lady Indians' standings in the division as they captured the North Division championship with a win over Coahoma last week.
To close out the regular season, the Lady Indians will host Holmes Community College Thursday night in Fulton. Tip-off is schedule for 5:30 p.m. on Sophomore Night.
