MAGEE - The No. 10 Indians shutout No. 12 Gulf Coast 4-0 in the MACJC Tournament semifinals to advance to the tournament championship for the second straight season.
Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) gave the Indians (35-12-1) the early lead and Olivia Burns (Grenada) shutout the Bulldogs to earn a spot int he championship.
Meine led off the game with solo home run and the Indians added a pair of runs in the second as Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) scored on a Jessica Davis (Cumberland) bloop single and Ellie Meine (Olive Branch) came in on a sacrifice fly by Hope Harbin (Columbus).
In the fourth, Davis scored during a squeeze bunt by Mattie Meine to put the Indians up 4-0.
Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) robbed Gulf Coast of a home run in the third, and had a scoring opportunity in the sixth by two runners on, but Burns struck out one and forced a fly out to end the threat.
The Indians will face Pearl River in the championship game tonight 7:30 p.m. and have also punched their ticket to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament that begins Wednesday.
